Where we go for bonds more often than for anything else.
An honest assessment of Nationwide from an agency that uses them — a broad commercial writer whose surety is the part we reach for most, and what that says about where they are strongest.

What we place with Nationwide.
Surety bonds
The largest single thing we place with them, and the reason they are on this list.
Without it — Bond underwriting turns on financials and credit, and a market that will work through those is worth having.
Excess liability
Umbrella limits above a primary placed elsewhere.
Without it — The limit above the limit is what a serious contract actually asks for.
Home health and care services
The biggest class in our Nationwide book.
Without it — A standard market that takes a class plenty of others decline.
What people ask us about Nationwide.
What do you actually place with Nationwide?
Surety bonds first, then excess liability and package business. The largest class is home health agencies, with tire dealers, software firms and auto repair behind it.
Are they good for surety?
They are one of the markets we reach for, and bonds are the thing we place with them most. Bond pricing depends heavily on business financials and personal credit, so the useful work is presenting those well rather than shopping the rate.
Why go through a broker instead of buying direct?
Because it does not cost you anything, which is the part that surprises people. Broker compensation is built into the carrier’s rate whether you use one or not — buying direct does not remove the cost, it removes the person being paid to be on your side of it.
Commercial insurance is 96% of what we do — it is not a department here, it is the whole business. Not ready to talk? The guides answer the questions this page raises in more depth. Already insured with us and need a certificate or a policy change? Ask the service team rather than starting a quote — it is faster and it goes to the people whose job it is. We also write home and auto, which is usually cheaper alongside the business policy than apart from it.
