A standard market we use selectively rather than by default.
An honest assessment of Liberty Mutual from an agency that places some business with them — a large standard carrier, a modest part of our book, and the account types where they are the answer.

What we place with Liberty Mutual.
General liability
The most common single line we place with them.
Without it — A standard-market form on accounts that want a familiar name behind the certificate.
Packaged property and liability
Property, liability and inland marine written together on trade accounts.
Without it — One renewal date and one adjuster across lines that argue with each other at claim time.
Landscaping and exterior trades
Grounds maintenance and building exterior contractors are our biggest classes here.
Without it — Trade accounts with vehicles and equipment need the lines to line up, which a package does.
What people ask us about Liberty Mutual.
What do you actually place with them?
General liability and packaged trade business, in modest volume. The classes are landscaping, home health agencies and building exterior contractors.
Why is it not more of your book?
Because on most of the accounts we see, another market wins on price or on form. That is not a criticism of the carrier so much as a description of what marketing an account properly produces.
Why go through a broker instead of buying direct?
Because it does not cost you anything, which is the part that surprises people. Broker compensation is built into the carrier’s rate whether you use one or not — buying direct does not remove the cost, it removes the person being paid to be on your side of it.
Commercial insurance is 96% of what we do — it is not a department here, it is the whole business. Not ready to talk? The guides answer the questions this page raises in more depth. Already insured with us and need a certificate or a policy change? Ask the service team rather than starting a quote — it is faster and it goes to the people whose job it is. We also write home and auto, which is usually cheaper alongside the business policy than apart from it.
