Fast to buy, and the form is where the trouble is.
An honest assessment of Thimble — on-demand liability that is genuinely quick to buy, with forms we have found do not stand up to a serious contract and service that is hard to reach when something goes wrong.

What Thimble is, and what to check.
On-demand liability
Short-term general liability bought by the job, the day or the month, from an app.
Without it — For a one-off event or a single short job this is a real product and it works.
The form, which is the problem
Read what the certificate actually grants before you rely on it for a contract.
Without it — A certificate that a general contractor or a venue will not accept is the same as having no cover, and finding out on the day is the usual way.
What we would use instead
An annual policy from a standard market, which is frequently not much more money.
Without it — Once you are buying several short policies a year, the annual one is usually cheaper and always broader.
What people ask us about Thimble.
Is Thimble legitimate?
It is a real product from a real program, and the policy exists. Our concern is not legitimacy, it is whether the form does what your contract requires — which is a different and more useful question.
What is our honest view?
We have found the forms thin against serious contract requirements and the service difficult when something needs fixing. For a genuinely one-off job it can be the right call; as the insurance a business runs on, we would not.
What should I check before relying on it?
Send the certificate to whoever is demanding the insurance BEFORE the job, and read the endorsements for additional insured and waiver of subrogation wording. Those are the two things that decide whether a certificate is accepted.
Why go through a broker instead of buying direct?
Because it does not cost you anything, which is the part that surprises people. Broker compensation is built into the carrier’s rate whether you use one or not — buying direct does not remove the cost, it removes the person being paid to be on your side of it.
Commercial insurance is 96% of what we do — it is not a department here, it is the whole business. Not ready to talk? The guides answer the questions this page raises in more depth. Already insured with us and need a certificate or a policy change? Ask the service team rather than starting a quote — it is faster and it goes to the people whose job it is. We also write home and auto, which is usually cheaper alongside the business policy than apart from it.
