The name on the website is not the name on the policy.
An honest assessment of CM&F Group — a long-standing healthcare professional liability program whose paper is Medical Protective, and what that means for the nurses, home health agencies and allied health practices we place there.

What we place through CM&F.
Healthcare professional liability
Malpractice cover for individual practitioners and small practices, which is the core of the program.
Without it — A general liability policy answers a slip in the waiting room and nothing at all about the treatment.
Home health agencies
The largest class we place on this paper by a distance — 17 of our 30 policies.
Without it — Home health is a professional exposure carried into somebody else’s house, and both halves need covering.
Allied health and mental health
Miscellaneous health practitioners and mental health practices, written individually rather than as a group.
Without it — An individual practitioner policy follows the person rather than the employer, which matters when you move.
What people ask us about CM&F.
Is CM&F an insurance company?
No — CM&F is the program administrator and the policy is written by Medical Protective, a Berkshire Hathaway company. So the financial strength question is answered by MedPro rather than by CM&F, and the name on your declarations page will not be the name on the website you applied through.
What do you place there?
Healthcare professional liability, and mostly home health agencies — 17 of our 30 policies on this paper — with allied health practitioners and mental health practices behind them.
Should I buy it direct from them?
You can, and it is quick. What you lose is the comparison: this is one program on one carrier’s paper, and for a practice with any complication it is worth knowing what two or three other markets would do with the same submission.
Why go through a broker instead of buying direct?
Because it does not cost you anything, which is the part that surprises people. Broker compensation is built into the carrier’s rate whether you use one or not — buying direct does not remove the cost, it removes the person being paid to be on your side of it.
Commercial insurance is 96% of what we do — it is not a department here, it is the whole business. Not ready to talk? The guides answer the questions this page raises in more depth. Already insured with us and need a certificate or a policy change? Ask the service team rather than starting a quote — it is faster and it goes to the people whose job it is. We also write home and auto, which is usually cheaper alongside the business policy than apart from it.
