Spotting is physical contact with a child, and it is not optional.
Insurance for gymnastics and cheer programs — a sport carrying both a serious injury frequency and an abuse and molestation exposure built into the coaching method, and what that combination costs to insure properly.

What gymnastics insurance actually covers.
Two severe exposures at once
Most youth activities carry one hard exposure. Gymnastics carries two: a genuine bodily injury frequency from the apparatus, and an abuse and molestation exposure that cannot be engineered away because spotting requires an adult to physically support a child. Underwriters price them together, and a carrier comfortable with one is not automatically comfortable with both. California districts increasingly ask $3,000,000 per occurrence and $6,000,000 aggregate — Azusa Unified and Lawndale Elementary both do for work with children. Elsewhere $1M/$2M and $2M/$4M are the common asks. Read the aggregate as well as the per-occurrence number: it is the one that fails first.
Without it — A program placed on a policy priced for general recreation, with an abuse and molestation sublimit that a district or landlord will not accept.
Safe-sport policies as an underwriting input
Documented screening, two-deep supervision, open-gym visibility, and a written policy on private lessons and travel are now the questions that decide whether an account is quotable at all — not merely what it costs.
Without it — Declinations rather than high prices, which is a harder problem to solve at renewal.
Meets, travel and rented space
Competitions and camps happen in venues you do not control, and those venues issue their own insurance requirements with their own additional-insured wording.
Without it — A certificate that satisfies your landlord and not the host venue, discovered at check-in.
What clients with gymnastics insurance ask us.
Our current policy has a $25,000 abuse sublimit. Is that a problem?
If anyone is asking you for a limit, yes. A sublimit of that size is a common feature of packaged policies and it is not the same thing as an abuse and molestation liability limit — a requirement reading $1,000,000 per occurrence is asking for indemnity at that level, and $25,000 does not satisfy it in form or in substance. It is also, separately, a long way below what a single claim in this class costs.
Commercial insurance is 96% of what we do — it is not a department here, it is the whole business. Not ready to talk? The guides answer the questions this page raises in more depth. Already insured with us and need a certificate or a policy change? Ask the service team rather than starting a quote — it is faster and it goes to the people whose job it is. We also write home and auto, which is usually cheaper alongside the business policy than apart from it.
