Your studio is insured. The recital is in a theatre you do not own, and that is where the exposure is.
Insurance for dance studios and dance teachers — premises and instruction, the venues and competitions you do not control, and the abuse and molestation limit a school district or theatre asks for before you are allowed in.

What dance studio insurance actually covers.
The studio, and everywhere else you teach
A studio policy is written around an address. Recitals, competitions, school residencies and summer intensives happen somewhere else, often in a venue that will ask to be named as an additional insured on a certificate before load-in.
Without it — The venue refuses the certificate a week before the show, or the policy simply does not follow you to a location it never knew about.
Minors, changing rooms and backstage
Dance carries a supervision exposure that has nothing to do with dancing: costume changes, backstage areas, and adults with access to children away from parents. That is what an abuse and molestation requirement is aimed at. California districts increasingly ask $3,000,000 per occurrence and $6,000,000 aggregate — Azusa Unified and Lawndale Elementary both do for work with children. Elsewhere $1M/$2M and $2M/$4M are the common asks. Read the aggregate as well as the per-occurrence number: it is the one that fails first.
Without it — The certificate fails, and the underlying exposure is the one that ends studios rather than merely costing them.
Physical correction and injury
Hands-on correction is ordinary instruction in dance and it is also physical contact with a minor. Underwriters read those two facts together, which is why a studio's general liability and its abuse and molestation questions are answered on the same application.
Without it — An account priced only on square footage and student count, by a carrier that has not asked the questions, is one that may not respond the way you expect.
What clients with dance studio insurance ask us.
The school district hiring me for a residency wants $3M/$6M. Is that normal?
In California, yes. Azusa Unified and Lawndale Elementary both require $3,000,000 per occurrence and $6,000,000 aggregate for work with children, and $2M/$4M is common elsewhere. It is higher than a studio policy usually carries, so it typically means either a monoline abuse and molestation policy or a package rebuilt around the requirement. We quote both and show you the two numbers rather than asserting which wins.
Commercial insurance is 96% of what we do — it is not a department here, it is the whole business. Not ready to talk? The guides answer the questions this page raises in more depth. Already insured with us and need a certificate or a policy change? Ask the service team rather than starting a quote — it is faster and it goes to the people whose job it is. We also write home and auto, which is usually cheaper alongside the business policy than apart from it.
