Business insurance in Fort Worth, where a lot of the risk has wheels under it.
The federal minimum for most for-hire freight, and the number every broker and shipper contract checks. Hazmat and passenger operations run higher. We set the coverage up and produce the certificate — usually the same day.

What Fort Worth, TX requires
Trucking and freight operations book as commercial auto in most agency systems and price nothing like ordinary commercial auto, because primary liability, cargo, physical damage and the federal filings are separate placements that have to be built together.

A motor carrier operating under its own authority needs a filing on file with the federal regulator before it can run legally, and the filing is made by the insurer rather than by the carrier, so a lapse in coverage becomes a lapse in authority.

Texas is the only state that does not require most private employers to carry workers compensation, and an employer that goes without becomes a non-subscriber, which must be reported to the state and posted for employees.

North Texas commercial property routinely carries a percentage wind and hail deductible rather than a flat dollar one, which on a warehouse or a shop building is usually the largest uninsured number on the policy.

Contracts, landlords and licensing bodies converge on the same numbers regardless of city, which are $1M per occurrence and $2M aggregate on general liability, and $1M combined single limit on commercial auto.

Limits
What to carry, and why that number.
- Primary auto liability$1M CSL
- Motor truck cargo$100k and up
- Set by what the shippers you haul for demand rather than by law, and reefer or high-value freight pushes it well past the default.
- General liability$1M / $2M
- What a Fort Worth lease and almost every subcontract name by default, and what a yard or a dock operation needs before anybody signs.
- Workers compensationElective in Texas
- Legal to go without. Owner operators and drivers are where non-subscription gets expensive, because a driver injury is rarely a small claim.
Coverage
Four lines. Each one closes a specific hole.
General liability
Third-party injury and property damage, at the $1M/$2M nearly every contract, lease and license names by default.
Without it — Most contracts cannot be signed and most commercial leases cannot start.
Workers compensation
Required at a state-set employee threshold that ranges from the first hire to the fifth, and in four states it can only be bought from the state itself.
Without it — State penalties per employee per day in most states, and personal exposure to injury suits.
Commercial auto
Vehicles owned by the business at the $1M combined single limit certificates are checked against.
Without it — A personal auto policy that excludes business use, which is discovered at claim time.
Professional liability
The work itself going wrong (advice, treatment, a design), which general liability excludes by design.
Without it — The most common claim in service businesses lands entirely on the business.

Questions
Who handles trucking accounts here?
A dedicated transportation desk rather than whoever answers the phone, because the placement is genuinely different work. A freight account needs primary liability, cargo, physical damage, trailer interchange and a federal filing assembled from a market list that changes state by state, and the underwriting turns on your safety scores and your driver file rather than on your revenue. We write new authorities and established fleets, and the honest answer differs a lot between the two.
My insurance lapsed and I lost my authority. Can that be fixed?
Usually, and speed matters. The filing is made by your insurer, so when coverage lapses the regulator is told automatically and the authority goes inactive without anybody calling you. Getting it back means a new policy bound and a fresh filing submitted, and the gap itself becomes an underwriting fact that follows you to the next renewal. Call before a lapse rather than after wherever there is any choice about it.
Do I need workers compensation in Fort Worth?
Texas does not require it of most private employers, so legally you can go without and become a non-subscriber. For a trucking operation that calculation is harder than it looks. A driver injury is rarely a small claim, and non-subscription removes the statutory cap and lets the claim be litigated as negligence. Owner operator arrangements add a second question, which is whether the driver is genuinely independent, and an auditor who decides otherwise assesses the payroll anyway.
What does business insurance cost in Fort Worth?
For a shop or an office it prices off payroll, revenue and operations, and a small account can sit near $500 a year for general liability alone. For anything with trucks the auto line dominates everything else and the range is wide enough that a quoted number without your loss runs and your driver list is a guess. Send those two things and the answer stops being hypothetical.
I own several companies that share staff. One policy or several?
One structure, and it is usually several policies inside it, each naming every entity it has to answer for. The mistake is not the number of policies, it is an employee working for a subsidiary that no policy names. We set this up for a Georgia holding company with six operating subsidiaries and a shared workforce, and the gaps we found were in the places the owners had not thought of as insurable businesses at all, a technology services arm with no errors and omissions and a party planning arm with no event liability. Start with a list of every entity, what each one does, and which people work for more than one.
Does business insurance change from state to state?
The policies look alike; the rules underneath do not. Each state has its own regulator, its own workers comp threshold and rating bureau, its own surplus-lines rules, and its own quirks: percentage windstorm deductibles in Florida, the FAIR Plan in California, monopolistic workers comp in Ohio, Washington, North Dakota and Wyoming. The state pages below carry those specifics with sources.
Are you licensed in my state?
Yes. Boring Insurance Agency is licensed in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Every state page names the regulator where you can verify that.
Do state minimum insurance requirements apply to my business?
Mostly no, and relying on them is the classic mistake. State minimum auto limits are written for personal cars; commercial contracts check certificates against $1M. Workers comp is the exception. Its threshold is genuinely state law, and it is on each state page with the statute.
