Can a trucking fleet change insurance agents before its renewal?

Yes. A signed broker of record letter tells the insurance company that a new agent now represents the fleet on that policy; the policy, its price and its terms stay the same, and only the servicing agent changes. Fleets usually do it before the renewal so the new agent can approach the insurance companies the old one already used, which is otherwise blocked while the old agent holds the account.

One licensed human replies the same business day — not five agents, not an auto-responder. If the policy you have is already the right one, we will tell you.

Large fleets. Lori takes on only a few large fleets at a time, so each one gets a full renewal: the submission built properly and shopped with every insurance company that fits. Two openings remain for the rest of 2026.

Your current policy paperwork, a renewal notice, or nothing at all. A licensed agent reads it and replies the same business day.

What this means for you

  • The policy does not change. A broker of record letter changes who represents you, not the coverage, the price or the federal filing.
  • Each insurance company takes one agent per account. At renewal the first agent to submit is usually the one the insurance company works with. A letter is how a fleet moves that relationship to the agent it wants.
  • The incumbent may get a short window. Many insurance companies notify the current agent and wait a few days before honoring the letter. Plan around it.
  • Timing matters. A letter signed 90 or more days out gives the new agent time to build the file. One signed in the last two weeks mostly changes who sends the bill.

Will changing agents mid-term affect our coverage or filings?

No. The policy, the price and the federal filing stay exactly as they are. Only the agent of record changes, along with who issues certificates and handles service. Ask the new agent to confirm the letter has been accepted before you stop using the old one.

How a broker of record letter works
Why not let two agents quote the renewal?

Because an insurance company will usually work with only one agent on an account, and the second request is declined or ignored. Two agents racing to the same underwriters produce fewer real quotes, not more. Choose one agent and have them present a single complete submission everywhere it fits.

Why one agent per renewal works better

Need this handled?

Reading about it and having it handled are different jobs, and the second one is ours. We place the accounts other brokers decline — claims history, a cancellation, an unusual operation, a business nobody wants to underwrite twice — and we will tell you when the policy you already have is the right one. Tell us the situation and a licensed human replies the same business day.
